Accessible Math and Science for All Students

Accessibility is at the heart of what we do at Agile Mind. Our mission is to make math accessible to all students, regardless of their level of preparation, their learning needs, or their internet access. Accessibility matters in math and science classrooms. This means creating curriculum, tools, and support materials accessible to students of all backgrounds, ZIP codes, and learning styles. We have committed significant resources to solving accessibility challenges that are unique to digital math curricula, including reading complex math expressions out loud.

How We Support Accessible Math and Science Classrooms

  • Supporting common assistive technologies, including screen readers and browser text-to-speech.
  • High-yield teaching strategies and design elements that support rich learning by ELL students including building academic vocabulary and vocabulary acquisition, multiple representations of key concepts, rich animations and visualizations, embedded formative assessments and online practice items.
  • Incorporating accessibility capabilities like keyboard support, text resizing and addressing time limits—including an option to extend the user session, timeout warnings, preserving student responses across Agile Mind user sessions, and the option to extend assignments, quizzes, and tests for an individual student, group, or class.
  • Developing new tools to solve accessibility challenges in math education, like tools to read complex math out loud.
  • Adopting MathML, a text-based format for math equations, that can be accessed by assistive technologies and supports accessible design elements.
  • Choosing third-party tools that conform to a minimum of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 Level AA.
  • Testing against WCAG standards prior to major software releases.

WCAG Compliance

We invest significantly in conforming to WCAG 2.1 and are iteratively investigating, incorporating, testing, and releasing features and digital content for compliance. New features and digital content developed for the 2025-2026 school year will meet WCAG 2.1 Level AA. Accessibility for features and digital content developed prior to our 16.5 release continues to be enhanced with each release.

16.5 Accessibility Enhancements

  • Enhanced text labels and names, including labeling frame elements and adding roles
  • Improved contrast for buttons with text
  • Integrated WCAG-compliant calculators

Our Commitment to Continuous Improvement
